OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2011. Russia has banned food imports from six Japanese prefectures. The country’s chief epidemiologist and head of the Consumer Rights Protection Service broke the news on Thursday after high levels of radioactive substances were discovered in food and water in Japan.

Russian air companies have been prohibited from stocking up on food and water in Tokyo. Planes and ships arriving from Japan undergo a thorough radiation check. Mr. Onishchenko confirmed that radiation levels in the air and coastal waters in Russia’s far-eastern Maritime region were normal.
